Special Award for «Quir»
April 18, 2025
«Quir» by Nicola Bellucci has received a special award at the Lovers Film Festival in Turin, Italy: «In memory of Giò Stajano, a pioneer of Italian LGBTQI+ culture, Lovers dedicates a special award celebrating the freedom to be oneself. The film, chosen by the Festival Committee and Willy Vaira, portrays one of Italy’s most surprising LGBTQIA+ communities in an intimate, poignant and compelling way. The award goes to QUIR, for having portrayed with magical humanity and poignant photography one of the most surprising queer communities in Italy, living in the beating heart of Palermo, where Massimo and Gino have been welcoming and gathering – for more than forty years – people whose human beauty goes far beyond their persona into their large family. A true, beautiful and necessary film of great quality, telling queer and other stories in a Sicily where the testimonies of young trans and gay people give the insight that so much has been done, but so much remains to be done. Either one is happy or one is complicit: this is the great lesson of Massimo and Gino.» (Jury’s Laudatio).
